This photo was first published in Cycle Canada as part of an Italian Motorcycle photo feature by Photographer Bill Petro in the 2011 May issue. The words below explain some of the Bike’s history;
The advertised a dozen years ago in Walneck’s Cycle Trader seemed like a good deal. Ferruccio Gazzola took a chance, bought it sight unseen, and had it shipped from Oklahoma. Big mistake. The tank was patched with fiberglass, the crankcase had a hole in it and major pieces were missing. But only two years later, on the night before the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group’s Paris rally, the two-stroke snarled to life for the first time in a very long while. A chain that jumped its sprockets thwarted the Rumi’s debut, but Gazzola, undeterred, worked out the bugs and returned a year later to capture a best-in-show award.
About the Motorcycle From https://cybermotorcycle.com/marques/rumi/rumi-models.htm
“The Sport was without a doubt the most representative model and the most successful production Rumi, surpassed only by the prestigious Junior. Production began at the end of 1950 and the machine was presented to the public at the 1951 trade fair in Milan. The unusual lines, elegant livery and delicious sound charmed a whole generation.”
